In this section I will add interesting research from my doctorate that casts 'mental illness' in a different light.

For example, there is considerable research evidence that suggests there is no evidence that chemical imbalance is the cause of mental illness which perhaps raises questions about the billions spent on anti-depressants and other medications recommended by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence). The Myth of the Chemical Cure A Critique of Psychiatric Drug Treatment by Joanna Moncrieff and Madness Explained by Richard Bentall make interesting further reading.

Mostly it's life that messes us up.

What does help is relationship, not necessarily with a professional (!), although this may be a good place to find an informed companion at time of crisis.
